How To Make A Cheap Plug Knocker

By Ronnie Garrison, About.com

Lost plugs are expensive and every fisherman has this problem. Here is an easy, cheap plug knocker that works!
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 5 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Purchase a few two ounce sinkers - the kind with a wire loop are best.
  2. Purchase a few big clips - with or without swivels attached
  3. Put a clip on each sinker and keep in your boat.
  4. When a plug hangs up under water and you can't reach it, clip one of the sinkers to your line.
  5. Let the sinker slide down your line to the plug.
  6. Jiggle your rod tip up and down to make the sinker hit against the plug and pull it down below the hang-up.
  7. Start with a gentle up-and-down motion but get stronger if it does not come loose.
  8. When the plug comes loose, reel it in, remove the sinker, re-tie your line and start casting again!

Tips:

  1. Buy cheap sinkers, you will lose a few.
  2. Get on the opposite side of the hang-up before starting to try to free it.
  3. If you are fishing from the bank and can walk around to get a good angle on the plug, this may work from the bank.

What You Need:

  • 2 oz. sinker
  • big snap
